KERALA STATE WELFARE CORPORATION FOR FORWARD COMMUNITIES Ltd.

Objectives

To carry on the business of promoting the comprehensive development and welfare of the economically backward sections among the forward communities of Kerala through rendering assistance to their members, for improving their educational status, living conditions, all round development, livelihoods and to assist members of economically backward sections amongst forward communities to pursue Professional, Graduate, Post Graduate and Technical courses by facilitating educational loans at concessional rates of interest, scholarship to meritorious and deserving students and by helping and financing in establishing educational and technical institutions, if necessary, for their benefit and to improve their health care and   living conditions by purchase of lands and buildings or for construction and repairs or dwelling and their appurtenances and to promote employment generation, improvement in livelihoods and self employment through providing financial assistance in setting up of  their own tiny , micro, small and medium scale enterprises and other self employment avenues in the primary , secondary and tertiary sectors.

NAIRS IN THE ILLUSTRATED WEEKLY OF INDIA

Illustrated Weekly of India was an illustrious and prestigious weekly that started publication in 1880 from Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay). The proprietor of journal was M/s. Bennett Coleman & Co. The magazine was edited by eminent editors like A.S. Raman, Khushwant Singh, M. V. Kamath, Pritish Nandy etc. The weekly ceased to publish in 1993.The Illustrated Weekly of India dedicated its XCI issue (dated 20th December 1970) to the Nair Community of Kerala. It contains an enlightening and informative story about Nairs. Articles in the journal reveal social set up of Nair community, their culture, customs and rituals, art and art forms, festivals, eminent personalities of the community etc. The cover story has been written by Smt. Usha Chettur, belonged to well known Chettur family of Ottappalam of Kerala which had produced eminent administrators and jurists to the nation. Sri. Kalathil Velayudhan Nair, former General Secretary of Nair Service Society, Sri. P.K.Ravindranath, Sri.M.K.B.Nair are the writers who have contributed other articles.   Image of the cover page of the weekly and a few excerpts of articles are given below.
